Today the company is mainly a developer of high-end large screen TV sets. 29% of the company is owned by Sharp, giving the company a high-end offset to the market its low-end Aquos LCD brand dominates.
Sharp’s other associated company is Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer Pioneer Corporation. Since 2007 Pioneer Corporation has been controlled by Sharp Corporation. In early 2009, the Pioneer Corporation announced it will stop manufacturing TVs by March of next year. It is expected that joint venture with Sharp in the optical line of business will follow.
